Business South Awards

We are delighted to share that PB Design has been shortlisted for five categories in the prestigious Business Leader South West Awards. This recognition reflects our commitment to excellence, innovation and our people-centric approach. It’s thanks to the hard work, dedication and innovative spirit of our entire team that we have been acknowledged in the following categories:

  • Sustainable Business of the Year
  • Inclusion and Diversity
  • Business of the Year (51+ Employees)
  • Employer of the Year
  • Manufacturing Business of the Year

Sustainable Business of the Year

Our commitment to sustainability is driven by ethical leadership and stakeholder engagement. Our comprehensive environmental management system guides every action and decision we make.

We have reduced our carbon emissions significantly, from 119.6 tonnes in 2019 to 45 tonnes in 2022 across scopes 1 & 2. Now, we’re focusing on scope 3 emissions and working closely with our supply chain to achieve net zero by 2040.

Inclusion and Diversity

As an employee-owned business, we treat all employees as partners and share in the benefits. Our robust diversity, inclusion and equality policy creates an environment free of discrimination, bullying and harassment.

With a team that is 25% female and multiple ethnicities and neurodiverse individuals, we prioritise creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and supported.

Business of the Year (51+ Employees)

Becoming employee-owned in 2015 has transformed the way we operate, especially through the challenges of COVID-19. We have created a culture where every employee shares in the success of the business.

Our net profit has increased from 1.3% in 2022 to 3.9% in 2023, with a forecast of 11.6% for this year. Every employee takes ownership of their work and through programs, such as Project CHAMP, we provide a platform for the team to brainstorm ways for the business to reduce costs and save time. We also invest in our people, providing training, such as leadership training and an apprenticeship program, and have been awarded IIP Silver and Make UK Manufacturer of the South Region.

Employer of the Year

We prioritise the well-being and growth of our employee-owners. We offer role-specific industry training programs that include leadership courses and ILM qualifications as well as other development opportunities to help all our staff reach their maximum potential.

We have a dedicated well-being team that focuses on mental, physical, social and financial health, with professional counselling and hardship loans available. We also hold monthly team talks to make sure everyone’s voice is heard and that we act on collective feedback to drive positive changes.

Manufacturing Business of the Year

We specialise in designing and manufacturing both DC battery chargers and EV chargers, serving a wide range of clients, including major switchgear manufacturers, utility companies and charge point operators. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, we were able to maintain our workforce and have since achieved significant growth in revenue and profits.

We are always working to expand our capabilities in the industry. Our ongoing investment in R&D means we are always innovating and developing new technologies, such as our new generation of rapid EV chargers.

Looking Ahead

As we look to the future, we’re on track for continued growth and innovation. Our plans include expanding our product offerings, enhancing digital automation and exploring new markets.

We are incredibly proud of these nominations and grateful for the recognition from the Business Leader South West Awards. These achievements reflect the hard work and dedication of our entire team, and we are excited about the future possibilities that lie ahead. Thank you for being part of our journey.
